Jerry Dexel Named to Town Board<\/p>\n
Jerry Dexel was appointed as a new town trustee at the regular meeting of the town fathers Monday night to replace Don Noland whose resignation was accepted following his move outside city limits.<\/p>\n
Dexel was voted on, sworn in and seated at the Monday meeting.<\/p>\n
He is a newcomer to Dolores and is the manager of the Montezuma Water Company. One other vacancy still exists on the board which is yet to be filled.<\/p>\n
Bears Open Season Against Nucla Tonight<\/p>\n
The Dolores Bears open their football season on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 p.m. when they face a big team at Nucla.<\/p>\n
Nucla will be tough, but according to Coach Ed Page, they are in for a surprise when they meet the Bears.<\/p>\n
In a practice Black and White game last week there were a lot of surprises, said Page, all of them pleasant. He was very pleased with Marvin Tabor\u2019s running performance.<\/p>\n
Wade Goodall and Marvin Reichneau had a good game along with the steady performances of Wayne Chadwick and Nick Randall.<\/p>\n
$5,000 Reward Offered for Cattle Killers<\/p>\n
In an effort to apprehend persons responsible for recent cattle mutilations in the state, the Colorado Cattlemen\u2019s Association (CCA) has offered a $5,000 reward.<\/p>\n
According to CCA President Bob Burghart Jr., Colorado springs, monies for the reward fund have been pledged by many of the associations 72 local affiliate cattlemen\u2019s groups throughout the state.<\/p>\n
\u201cCattle mutilations are of concern to cattlemen all over the state, whether they are occurring in their area or not,\u201d Burghart stated.<\/p>\n
Gas Service Break Causes Problems in Dolores<\/p>\n
Natural Gas service was interrupted in Dolores on Wednesday afternoon when a construction company snagged a Peoples Natural Gas line while ripping ground during highway construction work on SH 147.<\/p>\n
According to Fred Jones, manager of Peoples Natural Gas, the call came in at around 4:45 p.m. reporting the damaged line. Gas was shut off at both the town border station and the Northwest.<\/p>\n
Accident Sees Two Dolores Youths Injured<\/p>\n
Several accidents were investigated by the State Patrol office over the weekend with one Dolores youth receiving serious injuries.<\/p>\n
No injuries were reported in a two car accident on August 28 twenty seven miles south of Cortez on Highway 66. Brenda M. Moore, age 22, of Dolores, was southbound attempting a left turn into a private driveway when her vehicle was struck broadside by a Volkswagen Van driven by Howard G. Schmidt of Juarea, Mexico.<\/p>\n
Traffic Accident Totals for Year<\/p>\n
Accidents are way up this year in comparison to last year in a report from the Colorado State Patrol Office this week. Traffic accidents for Montezuma County last month totaled 39 accidents, with 20 injuries and no fatalities. This leaves a total of 261 accidents with 81 total injuries and 5 fatalities so far for 1975.<\/p>\n
Totals for August of last year were 36 accidents with 16 injured and one fatality.<\/p>\n
County Works on Circle K Sanitation Problems<\/p>\n
First item of business to be taken care of at the County Commissioners meeting this week was a Board of Health to hear evidence concerning an alleged nuisance at the Circle K Ranch on functioning of a sewage disposal system. After hearing evidence the Board recommended giving the Kings until the end of the year to institute a new system. The new system will have to be completed before the re-opening of the camp in spring.<\/p>\n
Wedding Shower<\/p>\n
Thirty four guests attended a wedding shower for Lisa Gonzales on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Lenore Goode. Helping Lenore as hostess for the event were Jean Fischer, Lois Akin, and Ina Johnson.<\/p>\n
Lisa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gonzales of Dolores, received many beautiful and useful gifts.<\/p>\n
Graduating From CSU<\/p>\n
