{"id":109326,"date":"2015-09-23T19:22:23","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T01:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/bears-shake-off-rust\/"},"modified":"2015-09-23T19:22:23","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T01:22:23","slug":"bears-shake-off-rust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/bears-shake-off-rust\/","title":{"rendered":"Bears shake off rust"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:32102a5f-9927-44ac-9612-dec2741219bc --><\/p>\n<p>The Dolores volleyball team came out rusty against the Mancos Blue Jays on Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores gifted Mancos a free point before the game started by turning in an incorrect lineup sheet, and then Mancos junior Nicole Hess served the Blue Jays to an early 7-0 lead before Dolores head coach Gina Hollen called timeout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust to try to get them to refocus, to move on,\u201d Hollen said of the early timeout. \u201cDon\u2019t worry about what we just did, let\u2019s focus on: The ball is coming to me, what am I going to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of the Bears\u2019 early missteps may have stemmed from jitters, but they could have just been out of rhythm after not having a game for nearly two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt probably did,\u201d Hollen said when asked if the time off had any impact. \u201cBecause we\u2019ve just had a week straight of practices and not having that competition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dolores went on a 4-0 run after the timeout, but Mancos rode its early lead to a 25-19 win in game one.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Larissa Umberger and sophomore Cameron Elder jump-started the Bears in game two with back-to-back spikes, and sophomore southpaw Josie Majors kept Mancos defenders guessing by sprinkling in off-speed hits. The young Dolores team got clicking in its second contest and took the game 25-19.<\/p>\n<p>After finding their footing in game two, the Bears commanded games three and four to easy wins.<\/p>\n<p>In the third contest, Umberger went on a 9-0 serve streak. Elder and freshmen Aryelle Wright and Tatum Majors contributed to the run with spikes, and sisters Josie and Tatum Majors came up with big blocks at the net, leading to a 25-11 victory.<\/p>\n<p>Tatum Majors put her stamp on the fourth game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s a pretty consistent passer,\u201d Hollen said of Majors. \u201cAnd then you saw the serves, she\u2019s consistent in that regard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Majors began serving with Dolores trailing 3-4, and she continued serving until the score was 16-5 in favor of the Bears.<\/p>\n<p>After her 13-point run \u2013 and a handful of Mancos errors \u2013 Majors closed out the game with a spike to give Dolores a 25-9 win, taking the match three games to one.<\/p>\n<p>Hollen explained how Umberger\u2019s run in game three and Majors\u2019 streak in game four turn the game in Dolores\u2019 favor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just keeps the momentum and the energy level on our side, forcing the other team to make mistakes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>After dropping game one, the Bears seemed to find their groove, winning the next three to improve their season record to 4-1.<\/p>\n<p>They will look to carry their momentum into their next matchup, on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Norwood at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Volleyball wins first game in nearly two weeks<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":109327,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6362],"tags":[44,188],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-109326","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-ds-sports","tag-dolores","tag-dolores-star"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/109326","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=109326"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/109326\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/109327"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=109326"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=109326"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=109326"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=109326"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
