Earlier this week, only one of nine Ute Mountain Ute tribal council hopefuls had campaign signs posted. The election is Friday, Oct. 9.<\/span>Tobie Baker\/The Journal<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The election, open to tribal members 18 and older, is held Friday, Oct. 9. Polls at the Towaoc Community Center are open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Gary Hayes and Juanita Plentyholes currently hold the tribal council seats up for election. Hayes isn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t seeking re-election. Hoping to retain her post, Plentyholes will face challengers Marissa Box, Rudy Hammond, Ulysses Lang, Conrad Jacket, Emeline Casey, Bradley Hight, Christine Lehi and Davis Wing.<\/p>\n

Tribal council candidates must be 25 or older and be a permanent resident of the Ute Mountain Ute voting precinct. Convicted felons are ineligible for office.<\/p>\n

Required to submit a letter of interest to Chairman Manuel Heart, candidates also paid a non-refundable $200 filing fee. The deadline to apply was Aug. 10.<\/p>\n

Attempts to obtain biographical information on all nine candidates were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
