Susan Barrett MHS Queen<\/p>\n

Susan Barrett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barrett, was crowned homecoming queen at the Mancos-Dove Creek game last Friday afternoon. Attendants were Ms. Marsha Harrell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.F. Harral, and Judy Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Smith. The girls were each presented with a pom-pom corsage and rhinestone tiaras by members of the football squad. Greg Conway presented Judy Smith with her corsage, Bert Sanders presented Marsha Harrel her corsage and a bouquet of roses.<\/p>\n

The Mancos High School band formed the \u201cV\u201d for victory and the \u201cM\u201d for Mancos just before the candidates were presented. Their sharp lines and formation made a colorful setting for a coronation.<\/p>\n

Purple Heart<\/p>\n

Word has been received that Eric Hayes has received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Army Commendation medals presented to him in a bedside ceremony by his doctor on Sept. 27. Hayes is a patient at the Ft. Sam Houston Hospital where he has been receiving treatment for injuries received while serving in Vietnam the latter part of June. He is to be air evacuated to the VA hospital in Albuquerque in the near future for more back surgery. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alden Hayes, have been transferred to Globe, Ariz., where he is employed by the Park Service. Mr. and Mrs. Hayes have been in Texas with Eric most of the time since he entered the hospital.<\/p>\n

In Vietnam<\/p>\n

Army First Private Class Gilberto M. Archuleta, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrieio Archuleta, Mancos, was assigned Oct. 5 to the 4th Infantry Division near Pleiku, Vietnam, as a cook.<\/p>\n

Mancos Band invited to college events<\/p>\n

The Mancos High School Band, which won a cup at the recent Band Day in Durango, has been invited to participate in the Fort Lewis College Homecoming Parade Saturday. Fort Lewis music department chairman Al Ruland wrote a letter to the Mancos band director Jane Silver congratulating her and the band for their winning, and inviting them to be part of the parade which will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. They are also to be the guests at the Ft. Lewis-Adams State football game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
