James Beard and Werner Kress gave brief presentations to the board Monday. The board will vote on their choice Nov. 9. Whoever is appointed will have to run for the seat in the April election.<\/p>\n
Beard was born and raised in Dolores. He coaches middle school football, high school football, and middle school basketball.<\/p>\n
As a board member he said \u201che\u2019d like to organize more programs for kids in the community,\u201d he said. \u201cI love this town and feel it is my duty and my time to serve on the board. Plus I think it would be fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kress moved to Dolores 10 years ago from the Front Range. He was appointed to a vacant board position in 2008 and served for 1.5 years, but did not run for the seat in the next election.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like to help maintain the current status of Dolores, and I enjoy working for the town,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve served before, and have that experience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kress immigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1957.<\/p>\n
Mayor Val Truelsen asked each candidate what they can do to help improve the town.<\/p>\n
Kress said he has experience in finance, and can help improve the economic structure of town.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d work to save the town money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Beard said his experience in the construction industry has taught him to follow through on projects and work with people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is not a lot to improve in town,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m a proficient worker from start to finish, and understand utilities and infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n
