{"id":108465,"date":"2015-11-02T20:05:04","date_gmt":"2015-11-03T03:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/district-volleyball\/"},"modified":"2015-11-02T20:05:04","modified_gmt":"2015-11-03T03:05:04","slug":"district-volleyball","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/district-volleyball\/","title":{"rendered":"District Volleyball"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:0d2f8aa2-caa6-494b-a7ee-510819395900 --><\/p>\n<p>The Class 2A San Juan Basin District Tournament started with a surprise.<\/p>\n<p>Hosting the tournament, the Dolores Bears fiurst played Ignacio.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears were 0-2 against the Bobcats in the regular season, and Ignacio lost only one league game all year.<\/p>\n<p>However, after dropping the first game to Ignacio, Dolores ran off three wins to win the match (23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a couple of lineup switches that went in our favor,\u201d said coach Gina Hollen. \u201cThen they were just able to capitalize off of Ignacio\u2019s mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mancos Blue Jays were swept in their first match against the ranked Ridgway Demons (11-25, 17-25, 17-25), and both Mancos and Dolores fell in three games during their second matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Bears dropped three straight to Ridgway (18-25, 11-25, 13-25), while the Blue Jays fell to Ignacio (22-25, 14-25, 11-25).<\/p>\n<p>In each team\u2019s final game of the day, the Blue Jays and Bears faced off.<\/p>\n<p>Dolores freshman Tatum Majors started the first game with a kill, and later, served up consecutive aces to give the Bears an early 9-2 lead.<\/p>\n<p>Mancos\u2019 Taryn Gordanier tapped in a kill to stop the run, and freshman Mackenzie Benitez\u2019 ace cut the Bears\u2019 lead to 11-6.<\/p>\n<p>But the Bears followed with a run that included spikes from Josie Majors and Cameron Elder and aces from Larissa Umberger and Sierra Schwartz to lengthen the gap to 19-12.<\/p>\n<p>Umberger set freshman Aryelle Wright for a spike to make it 20-12, then Wright closed out the game serving to secure a 25-12 win.<\/p>\n<p>Umberger and Schwartz gave Dolores an early lead with aces in game two, but Nichole Hess and Gordanier kept Mancos in it with kills.<\/p>\n<p>Trailing 23-16, Mancos\u2019 Taylor Power-Bahr went on a run that included three aces to cut the lead to 23-20, but the Bears closed it out to win 25-20.<\/p>\n<p>After taking the first two games, Dolores carried momentum into game three, winning 25-13 and sweeping the set.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays were winless on the day, ending their season at 4-19.<\/p>\n<p>With wins over Ignacio and Mancos, the Bears finished districts in second,  and advance to the Class 2A Region C Tournament in Cedaredge, against Cedaredge and West Grand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dolores advances; Mancos is out<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":108466,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5770],"tags":[44],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-108465","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-high-school-sports","tag-dolores"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108465","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=108465"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108465\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/108466"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=108465"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=108465"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=108465"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=108465"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
