{"id":108271,"date":"2015-11-11T19:34:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T02:34:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/m-chs-moves-down-to-class-3a\/"},"modified":"2015-11-11T19:34:09","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T02:34:09","slug":"m-chs-moves-down-to-class-3a","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/m-chs-moves-down-to-class-3a\/","title":{"rendered":"M-CHS moves down to Class 3A"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In January, the Colorado High School Activities Association bylaws were amended to allow schools to be reclassified, rather than just play down.<\/p>\n<p>And on Tuesday, Montezuma-Cortez High School became one of the first schools in state history to be reclassified, moving from 4A to 3A in all team sports for the 2016-2018 cycle.<\/p>\n<p>M-CHS will remain in Class 2A in football, which uses different enrollment splits, and falls into Class 3A in individual sports.<\/p>\n<p>The change from 4A to 3A will affect team sports like softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball and baseball.<\/p>\n<p>Activities director Stacey Hall petitioned the Classification and League Organizing Committee, citing the school\u2019s socioeconomic make-up and travel expenses as key points.<\/p>\n<p>With the reclassification, M-CHS will leave the Southwestern League and join Alamosa, Bayfield, Centauri, Monte Vista and Pagosa Springs in the Intermountain League Conference.<\/p>\n<p>The move is bittersweet.<\/p>\n<p>After competing in the Southwestern League for over 50 years, Hall said the tie is broken with emotions.<\/p>\n<p>But M-CHS hopes to be more competitive in the Intermountain League, and it will benefit from the cut in travel costs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is where we belong,\u201d Hall said on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s a good thing for our community, it\u2019s a good thing for our school community, and it\u2019s a good competitive league.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Football stays in 2A<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5770],"tags":[21],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-108271","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-high-school-sports","tag-cortez"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108271","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=108271"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/108271\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=108271"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=108271"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=108271"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=108271"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
