{"id":107787,"date":"2015-12-09T04:44:54","date_gmt":"2015-12-09T11:44:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/parque-de-vida-hosts-cortez-cx\/"},"modified":"2015-12-09T04:44:54","modified_gmt":"2015-12-09T11:44:54","slug":"parque-de-vida-hosts-cortez-cx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/parque-de-vida-hosts-cortez-cx\/","title":{"rendered":"Parque de Vida hosts Cortez CX"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:e2465181-c3ef-44d3-92d2-ea605b373fb6 --><\/p>\n<p>Parque de Vida was once again the host site for the sixth race in the Durango Performance Center 4 Corners Cyclocross Series.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, there were over 70 competitors who traversed the difficult course.<\/p>\n<p>Paul Adams and Eric Cheever, of Cortez, enjoyed the challenging course.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grass is really thick, which makes it tough,\u201d Adams said. \u201cThere are some really tough run-ups and some good challenging sand sections, so it\u2019s really diverse as far as a cyclocross race goes. It\u2019s just got all of the aspects that a cyclocross race should have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a diverse course,\u201d echoed Cheever. \u201cThere are some run-ups and challenging sections by the BMX course. I think the course flows really well overall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adams and Cheever were two of the five local riders sponsored by Kokopelli Bike &amp; Board, along with Rex Robichaux, Jeff Organ and Sean Fitzgerald.<\/p>\n<p>Cheever finished ninth in the Men\u2019s B division, Robichaux was 11th, Adams 13th, Organ 14th and Fitzgerald finished 17th.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Newton, sponsored by Poison Spider, won the men\u2019s B division; Keegan Swenson, riding for Cannondale, won the Open Men\u2019s division; Frank Mapel, sponsored by Stan\u2019s Masters, finished first in the Men\u2019s 35+ group; Scott Dalhberg, riding for Hassle Free Sports, won the 50+ division; and Sofia Gomez Villafane, of the Fort Lewis Cycling team, won the Open Women\u2019s division.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Hagen, director of operations for the Fort Lewis College Cycling team, praised the Cortez Parks and Recreation Department for their help organizing the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCortez Parks and Rec was amazing,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir staff came out and helped us for a couple of hours on Friday to set up the course and get traffic control in place.
