{"id":106744,"date":"2016-02-11T04:59:52","date_gmt":"2016-02-11T11:59:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/sheriff-refunds-40486-to-town-of-dolores\/"},"modified":"2016-02-11T04:59:52","modified_gmt":"2016-02-11T11:59:52","slug":"sheriff-refunds-40486-to-town-of-dolores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/sheriff-refunds-40486-to-town-of-dolores\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheriff refunds $40,486 to town of Dolores"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The town of Dolores will receive a $40,486 refund from the 2015 law enforcement contract with the Montezuma County sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Sheriff Steve Nowlin said the refunded funds were a result of a careful accounting of expenditures. Savings in operating and vehicle expenses made up the bulk of the refund.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t promise you that every time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Dolores agreed to a $157,520 contract with the sheriff\u2019s office to provide law-enforcement services for the community of 950 residents. Two deputies are assigned to serve Dolores 80 hours per week.<\/p>\n<p>Nowlin said he broke up the budget so expenditures could be closely tracked month to month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore my term, there was never any accounting for it, and any unexpended funds would go back into the county general fund,\u201d he said. \u201cNow the budget is tracked so everyone can see where their tax dollars are going, and that is the way it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Interim manager Lana Hancock said the money will go back into the General Fund and help balance the budget for 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The board and town staff were pleasantly surprised.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s good for the town to get some money back, thank you,\u201d said board member Isabel Boyce.<\/p>\n<p>Town attorney Mike Green said it was historic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first time in 30 years I\u2019ve seen the sheriff return budgeted funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 sheriff contract is the same as 2015.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2015 operating costs below budget<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5736,5735],"tags":[44],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-106744","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news","category-news","tag-dolores"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/106744","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=106744"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/106744\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=106744"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=106744"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=106744"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=106744"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
