{"id":106343,"date":"2016-03-08T18:59:40","date_gmt":"2016-03-09T01:59:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/artist-presents-clouds-in-a-new-light\/"},"modified":"2016-03-08T18:59:40","modified_gmt":"2016-03-09T01:59:40","slug":"artist-presents-clouds-in-a-new-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/artist-presents-clouds-in-a-new-light\/","title":{"rendered":"Artist presents clouds in a new light"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The taxidermy of clouds is the avant-garde topic of an upcoming art show at the Dolores River Brewery on April 1-4.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaxidreamy\u201d is the creation of Dolores artist Megan Stout, who has painted 70 images with impressions and interpretations of clouds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy goal is to reach 100 for the show,\u201d she said. \u201cI was inspired by a Rufus Wainright song, who wonders if there are clouds in hell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s deconstructing the cloud topic on an abstract level, and has enjoyed how the concept has evolved over a four-month painting marathon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been inspired and very busy. I did not go for clouds in landscapes, I took the taxidermy of clouds to a more dreamlike state,\u201d she said. \u201cThere is a lot of color and use of lines, with a quirky quality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stout used mixed media, including acrylics and spray paint. She prefers to use plywood for her canvases, especially those that have aged because they have more character.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love giving life to old wood that has been lying around, forgotten,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>A portion of sales from the show will be donated to the art programs at Southwest Open School.
