In a short but somber interview Tuesday on \u201cThe Dr. Phil Show,\u201d the mother of Dylan Redwine \u2013 the 13-year-old who vanished from his father\u2019s home in 2012 and whose remains were found seven months later \u2013 provided a brief update on the unsolved case.<\/p>\n
Elaine Hatfield, in her third appearance on the TV show, told the host through a video interview that it remains a struggle to keep the tragic story of her son\u2019s disappearance and death in the spotlight.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe worked diligently on \u2013 on trying to, you know, make waves or do whatever we can do to try and, you know, keep Dylan\u2019s story out there,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd try and keep pressure on law enforcement as well as Mark.\u201d<\/p>\n
During a court-ordered visitation with his father, Mark Redwine, in November 2012, Dylan Redwine disappeared, prompting a massive search and rescue operation around Vallecito Reservoir, about a 45 minute drive northeast of Durango.<\/p>\n
While their son\u2019s whereabouts remained a mystery, Hatfield and her former husband leveled public accusations against one another, each blaming the other for Dylan\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n
In June 2013, partial remains of Dylan were found 10 miles from his father\u2019s home, off of a Forest Service road. The La Plata County Coroner\u2019s Office ruled the manner of death as \u201cunknown.\u201d<\/p>\n
Two years later, in August, the coroner\u2019s office reclassified the death as a homicide. The office has refused to explain what details prompted the ruling \u2013 citing an open investigation.<\/p>\n
Also in August, the La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office, based on evidence collected and behavior throughout the investigation, named Mark Redwine a \u201cperson of interest\u201d in the death of his son.<\/p>\n
Days later, Mark Redwine filed a countersuit against his former wife, accusing Hatfield of making inaccurate statements to pressure law enforcement to consider him a suspect.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Dr. Phil, Hatfield\u2019s frustration and sadness that there was not much of an update was apparent.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are still searches, ongoing searches that happen and through those searches there has been no information, no new evidence that has been found,\u201d she said from a barren room in her home.<\/p>\n
Hatfield told Dr. Phil of her husband\u2019s countersuit, which she said the courts call \u201cintentional infliction of emotional distress,\u201d and of her advocacy of a bill making its way through the Colorado Legislature that would make tampering with a dead body a high felony offense. The bill has passed the Senate and is awaiting a vote in the House.<\/p>\n
Dr. Phil vowed to continue to closely follow the case, reiterating his offer to Mark Redwine for a polygraph test \u201canywhere on the globe.\u201d Mark Redwine has declined the offer on numerous occasions.<\/p>\n
