If you\u2019re still planning on making a trip to go skiing or snowboarding \u2013 you\u2019d better get on it, as the area ski resorts are nearing the end of the season.<\/p>\n
After opening with more than twice the amount of snow as the first day last season and running for more than 65 days, Hesperus Ski Area closed the doors for the season on Monday, March 14.<\/p>\n
A mild February contributed to the decision to shut things down, but Hesperus was still open much later than last season, after closing on February 16 in 2015.<\/p>\n
Telluride Ski Resort is the next in line to close up shop.<\/p>\n
As of Tuesday, the mountain had reported over 280 inches of snow this season, and 3 inches in the past three days.<\/p>\n
However, a ticket representative explained that before the season even begins, Telluride sets its closing date for the first Sunday in April, regardless of weather conditions when the day arrives.<\/p>\n
Purgatory Resort also set a closing date for April 3, but that is just for daily operations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe end of our daily operations is April 3,\u201d explained director of communications, Kim Oyler. \u201cHowever, we will be extending our season into April on the weekends, so as for the actual last date, it\u2019s undetermined.\u201d<\/p>\n
As of Tuesday, Purgatory had reported seven inches of snow in the past week, and it expects to receive up to 19 inches more through the week.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisitation has been up over the last year,\u201d said Oyler. \u201cAnd the amount of snowfall we have received is also more than last year. This year, we currently have 219 inches to date.\u201d<\/p>\n
With Winter Storm Troy dropping snow across the state this week, Telluride and Purgatory have fresh powder to finish out the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
