The Dolores golf team hasn\u2019t blown away yet.<\/p>\n
But, wow, the Lady Bears have had to fight gusts of wind up to 30 miles-per-hour in each of their three meets this season.<\/p>\n
During their home meet at Conquistador Golf Course on Tuesday, the Lady Bears were once again greeted with screeching winds.<\/p>\n
But as Dolores head coach Jeff Carr noted, at least the temperature was warmer than the team\u2019s previous meets.<\/p>\n
When discussing the conditions, Carr mentioned that there were certain times that he wondered whether or not the course was even playable because of the strong gusts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a point on number five, which is one of our more canted greens, that I put a ball on the green just to see if it would stay put,\u201d Carr explained. \u201cBecause the USGA has a rule that if the ball can\u2019t stay in its position that the course is deemed unplayable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite the squalls, the Lady Bears and Lady Demons played on, and Dolores wound up with three of the top four finishers in the stroke play.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was another very, very windy day,\u201d said Carr. \u201cBut they hit really well. Kyra [Allen] had some really good swings, and they all had their moments.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kiselya Plewe had four key moments \u2013 making birdie on holes 4, 6, 8 and 10 \u2013 and she finished in first place with a 79.<\/p>\n
Durango\u2019s Katrina Chandler came in second with a 106, and Kyra Allen and Keyana Matteson finished third and fourth by shooting 111 and 113 respectively.<\/p>\n
Matteson provided a bit of humor for her group on the 10th hole when the head to her driver broke away as she teed off.<\/p>\n
As Carr explained, per USGA rules, if a club is broken out of a fit of anger, it cannot be replaced.<\/p>\n
However, because Matteson lost her driver head in a fluke accident, she was able to replace it to finish out the day.<\/p>\n
The Lady Bears are next scheduled for day trips to Pinon Hills Golf Course in Farmington on Monday and Tuesday, April 11-12.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
