The Montezuma County Historical Society plans a social gathering at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the Lake Vista Grange Hall, 28571 County Road M.<\/p>\n

The historical society recently moved into the historic building and is in the process of housing all its artifacts there.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot has been accomplished, but there is more work for anyone interested in preserving history and culture to enhance the future,\u201d June Head said in a news release.<\/p>\n

The evening\u2019s events include visiting old friends and meeting new ones, old-time piano playing and singing, and a short business meeting. Les Nunn will present a program about the history of the Lake Vista Grange.<\/p>\n

The historical society will provide spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic bread, tea, coffee and table service. Organizers ask that visitors bring a dessert. To help the cooks plan the dinner, reserve a spot before Aug. 21 by calling Marie at 970-564-0943 or by contacting Julie at 970-560-0071 or julibug48@q.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The annual social gathering also will give visitors and members the chance to start or renew their memberships. Dues are $20 per single membership or $30 per family.<\/p>\n

The historical society books on local history will be available, including \u201cGreat Sage Plain to Timberline,\u201d Lillian Hartman\u2019s 1909 publication about people in business, the Cortez Sentinel\u2019s Progress Edition about businesses, pioneer cookbooks, copies of the \u201c1986 Centennial Newspapers\u201d and a copy of the first page of the Montezuma Journal\u2019s first edition. Free copies of articles on history written for the newspaper and the travel magazine also will be available.<\/p>\n
