Eaton, an artist-in-residence at the park on Sept. 4-16, is documenting the night skies in the Four Corners area through still and time-lapse photography.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy primary goal is to capture the essence of the natural and cultural history of the landscape,\u201d Eaton said.<\/p>\n

Mesa Verde National Park is well situated for Eaton\u2019s photography because of its dark skies.<\/p>\n

Eaton will present a PowerPoint presentation about his work and discuss his residency at Mesa Verde beginning at 7:30 p.m., then lead a night sky photography workshop from 8-10 p.m. Workshop space is limited, and reservations are required. For reservations, call 970-529-4642.<\/p>\n

Mesa Verde National Park\u2019s artist-in-residence program allows professional writers, composers, and visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their art form among the sweeping landscape and the ruins of the park. This year\u2019s artists were selected from over 45 applicants by a jury of five.<\/p>\n

Other 2017 artists include painter Carol Chamberland, photographer Kit Frost, painter Larry Hughes, and ceramic artist Brad Bachmeyer.<\/p>\n

Applications for the 2018 artist in residence program will be accepted beginning Nov. 1. To apply, go to www.nps.gov\/meve\/getinvolved\/air_artists.htm<\/a> and www.mesaverde.org.<\/p>\n

The AIR program is managed by the nonprofit Mesa Verde Museum Association, the park\u2019s educational partner. For more information, call 970-529-4445.<\/p>\n

Raptors program canceled<\/h4>\n

The Four Corners Lecture Series presentation \u201cRaptors of Mesa Verde,\u201d scheduled for Friday, Sept. 1, has been canceled. The park said it hopes to reschedule this presentation for later in the year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
