The newest member of the Cortez Planning and Zoning Commission participated in her first meeting on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Board member Tim Kline announced his plan to resign from the commission in June, and on Aug. 22 the city council appointed Rachel Medina, a member of the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Advisory Board, to replace him. After she was sworn in, she voted with the board on two plats for new subdivisions in town, both of which were approved.<\/p>\n

Board chairman Danny Giannone welcomed Medina to the commission.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Rachel brings a great perspective on the commission, with her background and what she\u2019s been doing recently,\u201d he said. \u201cShe\u2019s been a member of the parks department for a little while now, and I think she\u2019ll be a great asset to the commission.\u201d<\/p>\n

Medina\u2019s appointment to the planning and zoning commission will leave a vacancy on the parks board.<\/p>\n

Tuesday night\u2019s agenda was short, with no discussion items for the board. In two public hearings, the board unanimously approved a preliminary plat for a subdivision near the intersection of Driscoll Street and North Mildred Road and a final plat for a subdivision near the intersection of South Cedar Street and West Seventh Street. The first subdivision would divide about 2 acres of city-owned property, zoned for use as office space, into two lots. The other plat would divide property owned by Alan Simonian into two lots.
