{"id":102736,"date":"2017-11-18T18:43:03","date_gmt":"2017-11-19T01:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/purgatory-resort-opens-for-the-season\/"},"modified":"2017-11-18T18:43:03","modified_gmt":"2017-11-19T01:43:03","slug":"purgatory-resort-opens-for-the-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/purgatory-resort-opens-for-the-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Purgatory Resort opens for the season"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><!-- gallery:7e4d0130-7163-4c5c-ad5a-45047fbf3583 --><\/p>\n<p>We may not have seen snow yet in Durango, but local ski resorts are beginning to open for the season.<\/p>\n<p>Purgatory Resort opened Saturday, and skiers and snowboarders \u2013 and mountain bikers \u2013 were ready.<\/p>\n<p>The resort was scheduled to open at 9 a.m., but people started lining up at 5 a.m., Kim Oyler, Purg\u2019s director of communications, said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome (were) even cooking bacon and eggs on the ski beach in anticipation of making first chair for the opening of ski season,\u201d Oyler said.<\/p>\n<p>The resort was also open for mountain biking, using lifts for both groups: Lifts 1 and 2 for skiing and Lift 4 for lift-served mountain bike trails this weekend, Oyler said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany riders had both their mountain bike gear and skis \u2013 combining two of Durango\u2019s favorite activities on the same day!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wolf Creek Ski Area opened Saturday. It plans to be open for the Thanksgiving holiday, Wednesday through Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>As of Saturday, the ski area has received 12 inches from the latest storm, bringing the settled midway base to 14 inches, the area said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>Nova Lift, Wolf Creek\u2019s beginner double chairlift, is operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with both natural and manmade snow, the release said. Nova and Susan\u2019s runs are open for skiing and snowboarding with lift tickets \u2013 $28 for adults, seniors and children.<\/p>\n<p>Treasure and Bonanza Lifts are operating with very early season conditions. Tickets to access Treasure and Bonanza Lifts cost $48 for adults, $31 for seniors and $26 for children.
