The Messiah Sing-in is a chance for any Cortez resident to sing the \u201cHallelujah chorus,\u201d as well as a few other pieces from Handel\u2019s \u201cMessiah.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an opportunity for community members to sing without rehearsing for months,\u201d Patricia Faulkner, organizer of the event, said. \u201cThey can come that night and join in.\u201d<\/p>\n
The musicians in the orchestra have been practicing for months, alongside soloists, but the sing-in gives those who do not have the time to rehearse a chance to participate.<\/p>\n
The oldest member of the orchestra, 93-year-old Joe Curry, will play the violin in the sing-in.<\/p>\n
People who want to join the choir do not have to sign up in advance, but Faulkner asked that they show up at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Faulkner emphasized the community aspect of the event. She said she encourages everyone who can to show up and participate.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about participation, not perfection,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
There will be a reception after the performance.<\/p>\n
