DPD\u2019s game, which will be on its Facebook page, will be called \u201cFugitive Feud.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Durango Police Department Facebook page<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>In a new twist on the popular game show \u201cFamily Feud,\u201d community members can have fun while helping the Durango Police Department locate wanted fugitives.<\/p>\n<p>On DPD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DurangoPolice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> page, people can play \u201cFugitive Feud,\u201d a parody that lists top suspects and their identifying information in the classic show\u2019s format.<\/p>\n<p>The game was the brainchild of Officer Cindi Taylor, and a new take on the weekly wanted posters DPD releases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to create something that would capture the community\u2019s attention more than the wanted poster,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>She said community involvement is crucial to apprehending many fugitives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that we can work with the community and that they will call in some of the fugitives because our officers are often busy on calls and cannot dedicate a great deal of time looking for these fugitives,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>The game is also an example of how DPD is expanding its social media presence on Facebook and Twitter to reach the community in an effort to lead to more arrests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe use it (social media) to educate our community on crime trends and encourage citizens to report crimes,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cWe often try to use humor in our videos and posts to try to engage our community more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DPD must often walk the line between funny and offensive, and the intent is never to make light of a serious situation with the videos, Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try not to push it too far, but we can\u2019t please everyone all of the time,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is a good way to engage with people, and a lot of us see bad things in our job as police officers, so humor sometimes helps with day-to-day things we see and deal with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taylor said DPD will continue to post weekly wanted posters but will also release new episodes of \u201cFugitive Feud\u201d monthly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith our community\u2019s involvement on our social media this past year, they have helped us solve crimes, find criminals and missing and endangered people,\u201d she said. \u201cWe also get necessary feedback from our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She noted two missing person cases last year in which people contacted detectives with more information, which helped close both cases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe detectives used that information, and they were able to locate those people, who were safe in both instances,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_shirttail\"><a href=\"mailto:mrupani@durangoherald.com\">mrupani@durangoherald.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Facebook game lists top suspects and their identifying information<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":102122,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[5736,5735],"tags":[1065],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-102121","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","category-news","tag-durango-police-department"],"acf":[],"author_name":"dh_admin","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/102121","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=102121"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/102121\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/102122"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=102121"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=102121"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=102121"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/dh.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=102121"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
