A man with an outstanding arrest warrant out of New Mexico who allegedly made threats to police Saturday afternoon has been identified as 41-year-old Mark Lindsay.<\/p>\n

Cmdr. Jacob Dunlop with the Durango Police Department said Lindsay called dispatch at 1:45 p.m. asking officers to arrest him at College Drive and Main Avenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers didn\u2019t immediately go down there, so he called back a few minutes later and reiterated to send officers,\u201d Dunlop said. \u201cHe said he wasn\u2019t going to jail and he wanted to shoot it out with the cops.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police traced the call to the Central Business District and made a reverse 911 call urging businesses to be on the lookout for a man wearing jeans and a brown Carhartt sweatshirt.<\/p>\n

Eastbound traffic at Camino del Rio and College Drive was temporarily closed as officers searched for the suspect.<\/p>\n

Dunlop said employees at the Ore House told police the suspect had been drinking there and making threats.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said he wanted to shoot the cops,\u201d Dunlop said.<\/p>\n

The La Plata County Sheriff\u2019s Office assisted with the search, and a deputy recognized the suspect outside of Steamworks, 801 East Second Ave., about 3:25 p.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cPolice basically circled downtown to find him,\u201d Dunlop said. \u201cAnother deputy was close by, and they approached him and took him into custody.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dunlop said Lindsay, who has ties to the Durango community, was unarmed. The outstanding arrest warrant was for battery against a household member.<\/p>\n
