The new Dolores Town Board members and mayor will be sworn in during a special meeting at Town Hall on April 23 at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
On April 3, voters elected Chad Wheelus as mayor for a two-year term. Town Board members Tracy Murphy, Jennifer Stark and Melissa Watters were elected to four-year terms, and Val Truelsen was re-elected to a two-year term.<\/p>\n
They will join Isabel Boyce and James Biard, whose terms expire in April 2020.<\/p>\n
The public is invited to a ceremony renaming the Anasazi Heritage Center on Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
The official new name is Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum. The name change was done to emphasize that the center is the headquarters for the nearby monument and because the word \u201cAnasazi\u201d has negative connotations for Native American tribes.<\/p>\n
The unveiling ceremony features free admittance to the museum, a guided hike to Escalante Pueblo and local perspectives on the exhibit \u201cTrowels, Trading Posts and Travels: The Wetherill Family.\u201d There will also be a museum tour, children\u2019s activities and the kickoff for the seasonal curation tours.<\/p>\n
The center is at 27501 Colorado Highway 184, 2 miles west of Dolores.<\/p>\n
Mountainfilm on Tour will be at the Dolores Community Center on April 27. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the films start at 7:15 p.m. Admission is $10, and kids 12 and under get in free.<\/p>\n
There will be a silent auction of outdoor gear, and food and drinks will be available.<\/p>\n
The event benefits Greater Dolores Action, which puts on the annual Dolores River Festival and implements sustainable enhancement projects in the Dolores area.<\/p>\n
Film screenings include \u201cDenali\u2019s Raven,\u201d \u201cAscend,\u201d \u201cJohn Shocklee: A Fairy Tale,\u201d \u201cCowtown,\u201d \u201cJohanna Under the Ice,\u201d \u201cDoing it Scared,\u201d \u201cWhere the Wild Things Play,\u201d \u201cThe Time Travelers\u201d and \u201cLa Langosta.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dolores\u2019 Cleanup Day will be held May 21-22.<\/p>\n
All materials must be on the front curb on May 21. Contain loose items in a bag or box or bound together. Cut limbs to less than 8 feet long. Separate items by type \u2013 metal, wood, vegetative \u2013 and leave space to allow equipment to maneuver for a pickup. Do not pile up items against a fence.<\/p>\n
Crews will work through town from west to east beginning May 21. Move vehicles out of the way during the cleanup. Items left in an alley will not be collected.<\/p>\n
Items that will not be accepted for pickup include tires, electronics, refrigerators\/freezers, paint, chemicals, oil, asbestos, liquid, hazardous or radioactive waste, construction debris, household trash and or batteries.<\/p>\n
The Dolores River Brewery is hosting Trivia Night on Thursdays at 6 p.m. Form a team or join one at the event. There are prizes and bonus rounds, and all proceeds benefit local nonprofits.<\/p>\n
