Cortez resident Mark Applequist will give a free lecture and photo slideshow at Dolores Public Library covering the history of Grand Canyon burros and his expedition to move them to Diamond Creek, on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6:30 p.m.

In January of 1981, Applequist and others transported roughly 50 burros from the lower canyon to Diamond Creek. The expedition was funded by the Fund for the Animals founded by Cleveland Amory.
