The one-day event is designed for novices and intended to introduce youngsters to hunting. To be eligible, youth must meet the age requirement, possess a valid hunter safety card and small-game hunting license, and have approval of a parent or guardian.

The hunt will be held Sept. 28 at the Lone Dome State Wildlife Area, below the McPhee Reservoir dam in Montezuma and Dolores counties.

To apply, youngsters can obtain an application from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife office in Durango by calling 247-0855, or by emailing [email protected].

Applications must be submitted by Sept. 7.
