Beverly Humiston-Scott filed a formal objection against the effort to recall her with the Montezuma county Clerk and Recorder Carol Tullis on Nov. 3, stating the words on the petition itself are false. “The words: ‘Ms. Humiston has been rude and intimidating toward school employees’ is false,” the objection stated.

“Also false are the words: ‘Ms. Humiston’s behavior cannot be tolerated by the residents of the Mancos School District any longer,” the objection stated.

In addition, Humiston-Scott stated that signatures should be rejected because those gathering signatures used the wrong permanent addresses on the forms.

The objection claims that the wife of Mancos School District President Monty Guiles disseminated additional information beyond the grounds set forth by the recall.

The official is expected to hold a hearing at 10 a.m. on Dec. 2 in the Mancos Town Hall meeting room. The official has up to 30 days to make a ruling, which can be appealed to District Court, Tullis said.

The recall effort began after a July board meeting in which Humiston-Scott was responding to a public rebuke, or censure, that accused her of bullying staff. Board president Monty Guiles asked her to leave, and she was arrested after she refused. District Attorney William Furse later dismissed the charges.
