Leading the way for the girls’ team will be sophomore Jordan Elder, who is currently the third-ranked long jumper in Colorado’s 2A Classification with a mark of 16 feet, 8 inches. To emerge victorious, Elder will have to defeat a talented field that includes Highlight High School’s Remington Ross (16 feet, 10½ inches) and Holyoke High School’s Taeryn Trumper (18 feet, 2 inches).
Also representing the girls’ team in an individual event will be senior hurdler Sierra Schwartz, who enters the state meet ranked 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (17.04). Schwartz and Elder will also compete at the state meet as members of the girls’ 4×200-meter relay, which will enter state as the 18th-seeded group (1:53.54).
On the boys’ side, Dolores will be represented by junior distance standout Phillip Huffman, who is ranked 12th in the 3200-meter run (10:37.64). Huffman will appear in the state meet for the second straight season.
