Hay on a truck hauling 360 small bales of hay caught fire Thursday afternoon about 3 p.m., closing U.S. Highway 491 for more than two hours south of Pleasant View at mile marker 45. Thomas Hampton, of Cahone, was taking the hay from a field to his barn and had traveled about five miles when the blaze erupted. The Pleasant View Fire Department put the fire out with the help of a tractor and backhoe to spread the hay out and smother it with a mixture of water and foam.
