Sophomore Klayson Smith, ranked No. 3 in the state heading into today’s high jump competition, took 14th in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Teammate Chrystianne Valdez, a freshman, cleared 7 feet, 2 inches to take 11th in the girls competition.

Sophomore Sky Cotton traveled twice that distance, along the x axis. She jumped 15-2.5 in the long jump to take 11th place.

Kelton Richmond, a junior, took 15th in the discus, throwing 119-11.

Both Ignacio 4×100-meter relay teams missed qualifying for the finals: The boys finished 13th in 46.61 seconds, the girls 11th in 52.56.

Ignacio’s state meet will wrap up today with Smith and Nicholas Herrera competing in the boys high jump.

Michelle Simmons made the state finals in the 200-meter dash with a fourth-place finish Friday and will run for the podium today, too.
