A man is suspected of shooting a woman before turning the gun on himself Thursday at the Walmart in Durango, according to law enforcement.
Both individuals died from their injuries, the Durango Police Department wrote in a Facebook post Thursday night.
“The male subject and female victim involved in today’s shooting near Walmart in Durango have both died at the hospital,” the post read. “The male is believed to have shot the female before turning the firearm on himself.”
The incident occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Camino del Rio, which is where the Walmart shopping center is located.
Police made a reference to domestic violence without saying whether the shooting was an act of domestic violence. October happens to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, help is available,” the post reads.
No further information was immediately available Friday morning.
