Randy Lopez, left, and Colby Lare, with Republic Services, distribute bear-resistant trash cans Monday at Durango Regency Mobile Home Park in Hermosa. The business distributed 133 cans in the park replacing the standard type of trash cans. A total of 300 cans will be distributed in La Plata County, with 55 placed last year at Hermosa Mobile Home Village. The funding for the residential bear-resistant trash cans are part of the 2023 Colorado Parks and Wildlife Conflict Reduction Community Grant Program. Bear Smart Durango wrote the grant on behalf of the La Plata County Bear Working Group. (Jerry McBride/Durango Herald)
