The Durango High School football team played its third team from New Mexico on Friday to begin its season, the Aztec Tigers, in Aztec.

The Demons led 7-0 after the first quarter, but exploded for 35 in the second to blow the game open. The Demons went on to win the game, 55-0, ending the contest early due to New Mexico’s mercy rule.

DHS is now 2-1 overall while Aztec slipped to 2-2.

Ignacio, meanwhile, played its first game of the season on Friday, hosting Whitehorse (Utah). Ignacio also dominated its contest, winning 42-12 to start strong with a win.
