The Durango High School basketball teams will begin their seasons at home Tuesday against Pagosa Springs.

The DHS girls will play the Pirates first, at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will take the court next at 7 p.m.

For fans who want to watch the Demons play, it will be their only chance to catch DHS at home until the girls take on Bloomfield on Jan. 8 and the the boys host Grand Junction on Jan. 15.

After their first game, both teams will compete in a handful of tournaments before returning home.

Both squads will return their leading scorers from last year: Anthony Flint and Mason Rowland.

Flint averaged 14.2 points per game last year while Walter Stauffer scored an average of 8.1 points per game. Both players are now seniors.

Rowland, meanwhile, scored 15 points per game as a sophomore to lead the entire league.

In a COVID-shortened season last year, the DHS boys finished 7-8 overall, scoring the No. 32 seed for the Class 4A state playoffs before falling to No. 1 Windsor.

The DHS girls went 6-9 last year and 3-5 in the 5A/4A Southwestern Conference without any seniors on its roster.
