Durango School District’s two-person Communications Department had an award-winning year of storytelling – thanks to the interesting and innovative work of students and staff members.
Karla Sluis, public information officer, and Paul Maddex, communications specialist, won three state awards from the Colorado School Public Relations Association in May, including the organization’s top Medallion Award. In late June, the team won four additional awards from the National School Public Relations Association, including the overall Golden Achievement Award.
The team won for these 2023/24 school year submissions:
NSPRA Golden Achievement Award and COSPRA Medallion Award for “Student-Led Campaign Makes An Impact,” which described high school students managing all aspects of the Grand Opening of the Impact Career Innovation Center on Jan. 24.NSPRA Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award of Excellence – News Release for the “Navajo Language Story” featured in the Colorado Sun and ABC News Live Prime story with Linsey Davis.NSPRA Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award of Excellence – Video-Series for “Website Video Series Markets Our Schools,” which can be viewed on the district website and each of the district’s 11 school-website homepages.NSPRA Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award of Excellence – Branding Image Package and COSPRA Publications and Digital Media Award of Excellence for “Impact Logo Has Ripple Effect on Branding.”COSPRA Publications and Digital Media Award of Merit for “New Year, New Storytelling: 2024 Website Redesign” in the Internet/Intranet Website category.
